The Heart Center is equipped with the latest in modern Coronary Care including a Coronary Care Unit, Color Doppler, Computerized treadmill, and the latest Digital Cath Lab.

In its distinguished history, the center has treated more than 18,000 heart attack and heart failure patients and performed multiple closed and open-heart surgeries.

We are happy to inform you that K.G. Hospital's Departments of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery are doing excellent service in the diagnostic as well as interventional clinical care and management of cardiac patients.

In our departments, we have got the following facilities:

  1. 12-bedded Modern State of the Art Critical Care Unit, which is manned by trained nurses, technicians and round the clock coverage by Registrars in Cardiology.


  2. The consultants are available round the clock for giving expert opinion.


  3. We have a 24-hour Heart Centre, which takes care of all cardiac emergencies. This department is manned by a Registrar in Cardiology, supported by senior consultants.


  4. Echo Cardiogram: We have Philips Sonos 5500 Colour Doppler Systems with Tissue Doppler, Harmonics, Transesophageal Echo and Stress Echo Dobutamine.


  5. Our charges for Echo Cardiogram are very reasonable and this facility is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.


  6. We also have a Portable Colour Doppler System (Esotec), which is being used in the Casualty Coronary Care Unit and Intensive Care Medical Care Unit for emergency bedside of echo cardiogram.


  7. Stress Test Systems: We have got latest state of the art GE-MARQUTTE Stress Test system, which is fully computerized for digital acquisition of signals, and this gives a superior quality of tracing. We have got two systems of this. Stress Test is being done on all days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except Sundays. This is being supervised by a Registrar in Cardiology and highly trained technicians and a Junior Medical Officer.


  8. CathLab: We have got GE CathLab systems installed four years ago and we have already performed 5,000 coronary angiograms, 950 angioplasties (which include single vessel as well as multiple vessel angioplasties), 250 balloon angioplasties and 104 pace makers. We also do Primary PTCA for active myocardial infarction and rescue angioplasty in cardiogenic shock. This Cathlab is headed by three Interventional Cardiologists and highly trained technical personnel and it is functional 24 hours a day, including Sundays.


  9. Outpatient Coronary Angiogram - Day Care Procedure - and Radial Lounge Procedure: Radial Lounge Procedure was first done in Amsterdam. This heart-related procedure is gaining popularity in India due to the convenience it offers patients. The procedure is becoming more popular in India, as it is easy on the consumer and his purse. In an angiography done using the procedure, the patient can walk out in about two hours. A patient undergoing angioplasty using the procedure could be discharged in about seven hours. There is no pain and not much in terms of follow-up action. Age is not a barrier for patients and the procedure is convenient even for older patients.


    10. Angiography involves getting a detailed picture of the heart, while angioplasty involves removing the blockages in the heart's blood vessels.

    Once the procedure is done, the patient could sit for a while in specially designed radial lounges, which has an ambience of a regular relaxing room with a television, snacks, etc. The patient does not have to be admitted in the hospital. K.G. Hospital is now equipped with this facility.

  10. Intra Aortic Balloon Pump: We have got IABP system, which is being used in CCU for critically ill patients before undergoing PTCA or CABG.


  11. Cardiac Surgery: The Department of Cardiology is ably assisted by well renowned Cardiac Surgeon, Dr. T. Jayarama Pai, with a team of 30 members and full fledged Department of Cardiac Surgery with modern operation theatres. Here complex congenital as well as high-risk CABGs, single and double valve replacements with or without CABG are being routinely done with success rates comparable to international standards.


  12. In addition to these, our hospital is fully equipped to handle various critical and trauma services with Regional Blood Bank Centre and 50-bedded Intensive Care System.


  13. To shift the critically ill patients from the peripheral hospitals, we have got a latest state-of-the-art Ambulance - Responder 2000 - with all facilities like defibrillator, ventilator and manned by an Intensivist and a team of technicians.
