A rare honour for Coimbatore

at a function in the city on Sunday.
COIMBATORE: Conferment of Padmashree on the Chairman of K.G. Hospitals, Dr. G. Bhaktavathsalam, is a rare honour conferred on the people of this region, especially Coimbatore, said Justice A. R. Lakshmanan, Senior Judge of the Supreme Court, here on Sunday.
Speaking at a function organised by the Committee of Hosts to felicitate Dr. Bhaktavathsalam, he said that the selection committee applied a lot of parameters and the nominations were subjected to several rounds of check and scrutiny by various Central and State Government agencies, hence being a recipient of Pamdashree award was no ordinary achievement, he said.
Healthcare destination
The Committee of hosts led by Damodarasamy Naidu of Annapoorna Group of hotels presented the "Outstanding Coimbatorean - Jewel of Coimbatore" award to Dr. Bhaktavathsalam for his service in the field of healthcare.
His contribution was immense in making Coimbatore a destination for healthcare, a citation said.
Literatteur Suki Sivam lauded Dr. Bhaktavathsalam for his "native leadership qualities not adulterated by the influence of modern and western education".
Service-mindedness
Lauding the service- mindedness and concern of the awardee for society, the Inspector-General of Police, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, K. Radhakrishnan, said that in a society where a large section of people lived purely for material benefits, service to society displayed by Dr. Bhaktavathsalam deserved to be recognised.
Committee thanked
The Chairman of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, B. K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, thanked the Committee of Hosts for recognising a service-minded person.
This would motivate others to emulate him.
Lack of timely recognition
He lamented that in a country like India, lack of timely recognition had led to a lot of achievers going unnoticed.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge, A. Rathinavelu, Chairperson of Confederation of Indian Industry- Southern region, Nandini Rangasamy, Managing Trustee of SNR Charitable Trust, R. Venkatesalu, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, S. Sivasubramanian, Arun Madhavan from Art of Living, Bangalore and poet Kavidasan were among those who felicitated Dr. Bakthavathsalam at the function.
