Geriatrics is the care of the elderly, a specialty of internal medicine that provides care for elderly people. Similar to pediatric care for children, which requires different knowledge and skills than care for adults, care for the elderly requires special knowledge and skills. Geriatrics generally focuses on people over 65 years of age particularly with multiple diseases and disabilities. Sometimes these patients are most challenging medical patients because they can't be treated with interventions or drugs, and every intervention carries additional risks that must be weighed against potential benefits.
The K.G. Hospital Geriatrics Department offers a complete spectrum of care for older individuals. Experienced physicians and paramedical staff work with social workers, rehabilitation therapists, community resources, patients, and family members to identify and address individual medical and social needs.
The team specializes in identifying, treating and managing conditions such as frailty, memory loss, insomnia, confusion, dementia, depression, diabetes, hypertension, urinary incontinence, osteoporosis, medication side effects and walking difficulties along with normal medical situations.
The activities of the department include consultation, primary care, long-term care, and public awareness on care for the elderly.
