Health Care has been advancing rapidly the world over. In India, private charitable hospitals have contributed enormously to the primary, secondary and tertiary care of the common man, who cannot afford costly medicare. India being a highly populated country - second in the world after China - the Government alone cannot cater to the medical needs of the masses. We at K.G. Hospital have launched a series of schemes to promote health awareness in the country by conducting a number of free medical camps and highlighting the importance of taking preventive care against various diseases. Our doctors, students of medicine and staff members have set in excellent standards.

K.G. Hospital, Coimbatore, a Multi-Speciality and a Super Speciality Hospital is a charitable institution run by K. Govindaswamy Naidu Medical Trust, Coimbatore. It offers Advanced and Affordable Healthcare to the people. The Hospital was established in 1975. The Hospital has grown to 550 super speciality beds, with all major Departments as are required for a Modern Super Speciality Hospital, the supporting departments being Blood Bank, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Clinical Pathology, Cytology, Histopathology and Virology Research Laboratory. The Radiology Department is equipped with an MRI, 3-D/4-D C.T. Scan, Colour Doppler, Digital Cathlab, Echocardiography and Ultrasound Scanner.

The main building of K.G. Hospital at Arts College Road, Coimbatore, provides various kinds of facilities. There are seven Operation Theatres - 5 major and 2 minor. The Intensive Care Units cater to the needs of Medical, Surgical and Coronary care patients. The Hospital also has a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit. The Hospital has 5 Ambulances, out of which one ambulance is equipped as a mobile Intensive Care Unit. The Hospital's staff strength is around 1,200, of which 150 are Doctors specialised in various fields of medicine, rendering round-the-clock service. The Hospital has also a College of Health Sciences to provide training in Nursing and allied health science to the students.

KG Eye Hospital : a charitable and unique 300-Bed Eye Hospital located at Saravanampatti, located on the outskirts of Coimbatore. It aims to provide VISION within the reach of the sightless. This hospital has the unique distinction of being the pioneer in introducing the concept of Intra Ocular Lens Implantation Surgery for all cases related to Cataract. The eye hospital has so far conducted a record number of 85,500 free cataract surgeries with intra-ocular lens implant. Bharat Ratna Dr. Abdul Kalam, President of India, Dr. Christian Bernard of South Africa, who pioneered Heart Transplantation in the World, and many eminent leaders within the country and abroad have visited our facilities and appreciated our efforts.

His Excellency, the President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, launched a national programme in our Hospital on 21st February 2003 titled "DR. KALAM-K.G. CRUSADE AGAINST CHILDHOOD BLINDNESS".

KG Post Graduate Institute : has been recognised for post-graduate programmes of National Board of Examination for Neurology, Neuro-Surgery, General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Radiodiagnosis and Ophthalmology. Twelve postgraduate doctors are admitted every year from all over the country.

Recognised By The Central Government : The Hospital has also been recognised by the Government of India under CS(MA) Rule, 1944. The Hospital has also been recognised for treatment of Central and State Government (Tamil Nadu & Kerala) employees as well as several Private/Public Limited Companies, Banks and Insurance Companies. The Hospital also has been recognised for Prime Minister and Chief Minister Relief Fund grants for conducting specialised surgeries.

KG Heart Hospital : The Centre is equipped with modern cardiac surgery Operation Theatre, latest model Heart Lung Machine, well equipped ICU, with all the types of modern facilities, including latest model oft Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP). This Department has open Heart Surgery Programme, where we perform all types of adult heart surgeries, using composite arterial grafts like bilateral internal mammory arteries, radial artery and right gastroepiploic artery. The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Dr. J. Jayalalithaa, has recognized K.G. Heart Hospital under 'IDHAYAM KAAPPOM" Scheme, whereby the Hospital will do 100 FREE HEART SURGERIES for 100 poor patients every year, whereby the AIADMK Trust will reimburse to the Hospital only the cost of consumables. K.G. Heart Hospital has also been recognized for release of fund under the PRIME MINISTER'S RELIEF FUND for Heart Surgery and also the TAMIL NADU CM'S PUBLIC RELIEF FUND for Heart Surgery.

Department of Nephrology : The Department of Nephrology at K.G. Hospital has been doing excellent service to the patients suffering from Kidney failure. Treatments conforming to international standards are made available to every patient, irrespective of his or her economic status, including Haemodialysis, Renal Transplantation and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis Programme. We had conceived a wonderful plan to help the poor patients a few years ago, under which 365 dialysis are done in a year free of cost by 365 sponsors in commemoration of their birthdays, marriage anniversary, etc., through A programme called SAVE A LIFE TODAY..

Hypertension (The Silent Killer) : Hypertension is a disease that is present in 7 to 10% of our population. With increase in stress levels, changes in food habit, cigarette smoking and polluted environment, the incidence of hypertension has been steadily increasing. There is no age-limit for hypertension. The youngest person affected by high blood pressure in K.G. Hospital is a two-day-old child, who was brought to the Hospital with vomiting and breathing difficulties. The child had kidney failure and high blood pressure, which was successfully treated and the child became normal. K.G. Hospital has been conducting various public awareness programmes, where the importance of high blood pressure has been told to the public. So far, the hospital has conducted 200 free blood pressure checkup camps and also camps have been conducted in schools, colleges, companies and have identified 2,500 people with high BP.

In our "Free Blood Pressure Clinic" at K.G. Hospital, we have been screening blood pressure of people free of cost to everyone who walks into the Hospital to see their friends and relatives. In the last 2 years ever since this project was inaugurated, 1,52,623 patients have been screened; 15,043 patients were diagnosed to have high BP. In order to cover the entire population of Coimbatore, a HYPERTENSION CLINIC has been set up in K.G. Hospital recently. The aim is to cover the entire population of Coimbatore - 6 lakhs - over a period of one year. Towards this end, teams of people have been formed. They go to all the schools, colleges, market places, banks, railway stations, bus stands, etc., and conduct camps to check blood pressure.

Rural Village Out-reach Programme : We are conducting extensive camps to create health awareness amongst the people, apart from conducting specific camps for various diseases, all over Coimbatore and in the districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala since inception. We have also conducted a number of CME programmes for the medical fraternity in the adjoining districts.

Bakthavathsalam, Chairman : with 41 years of experience in health care is responsible for creating this "World Class" institution, which serves lakhs of people of this region and adjoining areas. Awards received by him include: Dr. B.C. ROY AWARD (1984) by late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, for community health care, SEVA RATNA AWARD (1999) instituted by THE CENTENARIAN TRUST with the blessings of Mahaswami of Kanchi for meritorious and outstanding service in the field of Healthcare, VAIDYA RATNA AWARD (2001) by Sri Adichunchanagiri Math, Karnataka, SWAMY SEVA PURASKARAM AWARD (2002) by Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Dharma Parishath and LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD : 2003 by Salem Gastro Centre, Salem. The Chairman also obtained the Coveted PADMA SHRI AWARD from the President of India during March, 2005 for his significant contribution in Healthcare.

ISO 9002 CERTIFICATION : K.G. Hospital is the fourth Hospital in the country to have obtained ISO 9002 for rendering quality medicare. It is one of the ten hospitals recognised in India for treatment.
